Floris van Delft studied chemistry at the University of Leiden (the Netherlands) with a major in the synthesis of complex LPS oligosaccharides. At the same university he performed his PhD-research under the supervision of professor J.H. van Boom on the application of silicon in stereoselective organic synthesis. After his graduation in 1996 he moved to The Scripps Research Institute (San Diego, USA) for a postdoctoral stay with prof. KC Nicolaou, to work on the synthesis of the oligosaccharide antibiotic everninomycin. During this time, he also completed the total synthesis of eleutherobin. In 1998 he was appointed at the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands) as an assistant professor in bio-organic chemistry, but not after long (2000) he moved to the University of Nijmegen (the Netherlands) to lead a junior research group in synthetic organic chemistry, with a main focus on aminoglycoside antibiotics and other carbohydrate-related natural products. He is a recipient of a NWO Vernieuwingsimpuls (2001). |
