Our group has a great interest in the design and synthesis of densely functionalized heterocycles of biological relevance. The research depends heavily on both bio and metal catalysis as well as combinatorial and targeted synthesis. To achieve our goals, the group, of on average 20 researchers, has access to the latest analytical and synthetic tools including novel technologies such as an in-house developed parallel high pressure synthesizer.

Major research efforts include (i) the synthesis and application of non-proteinogenic amino acids in creating drug-like building blocks, (ii) the application of hyperbaric reactions for the synthesis of bioactive heterocycles in a combinatorial fashion, and (iii) the development of new pharmaceutically relevant compounds based on chemically modified glycopeptide derivatives .

In September 2004 the Rutjes group moved to the new Huygens building. You can explore our new location in the slideshow to the right or click here for a 360° panorama view of one of our labs.
